This event is about a young bald eagle who was shot about 2 months ago who was returned to the wild, biologist say it is likely to meet up with other eagles this winter. State and federal authorities are continuing the search for the eagles shooter. The eagle was released near the Androscoggin River which is were a number of bald eagles congregate in the winter. It was held in captivity for the minimum length of time to help it’s chances in the wild. An examination of the eagle found that it had been shot by a shotgun and suffered a broken wing. The rehabilitation center provided the male eagle with the material needed to build a nest to attract a female.
Federal: having or relating to a system of government in which several states form a unity but remain independent in internal affairs
Released:allow or enable to escape from confinement; set free
Congregate:gather into a crowd or mass
Captivity:the condition of being imprisoned or confined
Examination:a detailed inspection or investigation
This article stuns me to learn that people will still hunt endangered and national animals like they are nothing. what is it that can make a person this bad that they will hunt their own countries national bird and a young one at that? In my opinion this person was probably either a poacher that failed to gather the evidence or an accidental shot and they were to scared to tell it was an accident since you could probably still get in trouble after shooting an endangered / illegal animal.
A mother and here baby girl get killed 1 mile from Castle Forest Lodge in Kenya, by a charging elephant. The elephant charged at full speed out of the brush and trampled the mother and her baby to death. The mother was unable to escape either from the burden of the babies weight or panic. The woman Sharon Brown and her husband are listed faculty members at the International school of Kenya. It says that all tour guides are supposed to be armed but the tour this woman was on the guide had no gun.
Charging: rush forward in attack
Trampled: tread on and crush
Burden: a load
Faculty: the teaching staff of a university or college, or of one of its departments or divisions, viewed as a body
Armed: supply or provide with equipment, tools, or other items in preparation or readiness for something
My reaction to this article is shocked. My main question is were they in the elephant’s territory and saw the people as a threat? Did the people provoke the elephant but they do not say it in the article? I think that they may have been in it’s territory and may have encountered poachers before and thought all humans were poachers and saw them as a threat. This is i my opinion a freak accident.
This topic is about how the Virginia governor wants a month to celebrate the confederates. He wants to be able to celebrate what they did in the was but he did not bring up the topic of slavery because he felt it would be offensive. He felt that the confederates’ should be remembered for what they were fighting for but not slaves. To me this means that he wants there to be a month for Virginians’ to learn and remember about the confederates.
In my opinion it is not a bad idea as long as people don’t go for slavery. I think that people are making to much of a big deal about this. Its just to remember the veterans’ and what they fought for other than slavery. If the governor had said, “Okay lets remember them for slavery!” then I would understand the anger people have. I think people are just over reacting to this. Its just another Veterans Day in my opinion.
